The Organising Committee of the Games of the XXIX Olympiad engaged the services of Crystal CG and Spinifex Group to create content for the Opening Ceremony of the Beijing Games in 2008. Led by the vision of China’s most famous film director Zhang Yimou, the Opening Ceremony was a celebration of Chinese culture and history—the first part highlighting the Chinese civilisation and the second part representing modern China and its dream of harmony between people of the world.

The opening ceremony was lauded by spectators and numerous international media as spectacular and spellbinding, and by many accounts ‘the greatest ever in the history of Olympics’ [Agence France-Presse, 2008-08-09]. In collaboration with Director Zhang, Director Yang, and Producer Yvonne Ho, Spinifex was responsible for content design and creation of multiple components of the opening ceremony for the large floor LED scroll and 360 LED ribbon.
